My Top five revision tips for successful revision and achieving the grade you want.
All students are in the same situation at this time of year. Exams are looming and you have loads of subjects and topics you must revise for in a short space of time in order to get it all done. If you find yourself in this situation you will be asking yourself the question, "How do I revise?"
The truth is revision doesn't have a one method fits all trick. We are all individuals and so all learn in many ways.
Revision Tips There are so many revision techniques out there, but I have narrowed it down to a few top tips that can help you get on the right track.
1. Clear, Concise, Clarity Before you turn to your work notes or textbooks you have to be clear about a revision plan. Have a weekly timetable planned out. It should include regular breaks and any social actvites you have; you can work your revision into your lifestyle. Having a happy work life balance is key. Note all the times you are able to focus without distraction. It is also important to keep in mind the time of day you are going to allocate to revision. Do you work better first thing? Or are you a night owl with less distraction? Plan for what ever works for you and your busy schedule.
2. Take the Plunge! We all have that one subject we detest. Take the plunge by doing this topic first. This can help you get it out of the way, and you will find you can relax more whilst studying the other topics on your timetable.
3. Split Up Subjects School subjects these days are not straight forward one topic revision notes and tick its done. In fact, many subjects have over 10 topics for you to grasp. When Revising instead of giving yourself an hour for Maths split the topics e. g. Number, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics to ensure you are getting full coverage of the subject. REMEMBER QUALITY REVISION MATTERS NOT QUANTITY.
4. Homework Helps For many years you have groaned about pointless homework tasks. Well, now you can use the endless worksheets and booklets as cue revision questions to test your understanding. Don't create extra work for yourself utilize what you already have available.
5. Do it with Daily Tasks Revision can be a burden if you have a busy timetable. But one tip I found handy was placing memorable facts around areas of the house. If it's formulas to remember for maths or quotes for English, scribble them down and place them in areas you visit every day. Brushing your teeth... Read the note, changing your socks... Read the note you placed in the draw, making breakfast... The list is endless. This way Revising boring facts can become apart of your daily routine.
Just Breathe
In short, you still must open the books and show up in order to get the work done.
However, hopefully, these tips will help you with the uphill struggle of revision and
turn it into a focused plan that works for you!
Good Luck and remember you’ve got this!!!
